Matthew Fritz
2018 Chardonnay
North Coast
Winemaker Notes
Our 2018 Chardonnay is bright and fresh with a medium gold color. Aromas of ripe pear and yellow apple lead the way to the crisp clean fruit flavors on the palate. Further flavors of white peach and a subtle hint of French Oak round out the finish.
Vintage
California’s 2018 vintage was a near picture-perfect growing season which began in late February. Spring was mild with extended flowering, yielding uniform grape clusters. Temperatures remained steady and warm throughout the summer, without any significant heat spikes, which made for a cool, unhurried harvest. Yields were reported above average and the optimism for quality in the 2018 vintage is very high.
Vineyard
Our 2018 Matthew Fritz Chardonnay grapes were sourced primarily from Mendocino/Russian River – The vineyards are located along the Russian River in southern Mendocino County just North of Hopland. The second portion was sourced from top vineyards in Alexander Valley also grown along the Russian River.
Winemaker
Renowned winemaker Jim Milone crafts, blends and bottles Matthew Fritz in Healdsburg, Sonoma County. Jim grew up in the vineyards of his grandfather’s winery in Mendocino County and currently lives in Northern Sonoma. His excellent relationships with wineries and growers throughout the North Coast of California are invaluable to our vineyard sourcing.
