Matthew Fritz
2018 Pinot Noir
North Coast
Winemaker Notes
Our 2018 is a medium ruby color with intense aromas of violets, red cherries, and rhubarb. The palate is framed by firm acidity and loaded with wild berries, allspice, forest floor and hints of crushed tea leaf. This wine is an elegant expression from a classic vintage.
Vintage
California’s 2018 vintage was a near picture-perfect growing season which began in late February. Spring was mild with extended flowering, yielding uniform grape clusters. Temperatures remained steady and warm throughout the summer, without any significant heat spikes, setting up a cooler, unhurried harvest. Yields were reported above average and the optimism for the overall quality of the 2018 vintage is very high.
Vineyard
The 2018 Matthew Fritz Pinot Noir was sourced from two appellations in Northern California. One vineyard is located at the headwaters of the Russian River in Mendocino County. The other portion was sourced from various AVAs in Sonoma County including Los Carneros, Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast.
Winemaker
Renowned winemaker Jim Milone crafts, blends and bottles Matthew Fritz in Healdsburg, Sonoma County. Jim grew up in the vineyards of his grandfather’s winery in Mendocino County and currently lives in Northern Sonoma. His excellent relationships with wineries and growers throughout the North Coast of California are invaluable to our vineyard sourcing.
